1-2-3-4 Cake

Finally! Still having computer issues, but I have found a way to post some pictures.

I have been trying to make a decent cake from scratch for a year or so, and finally found a good recipe and a great trick. I offered to make the birthday cake of a child I teach at church. His birthday fell on Wednesday, and she was celebrating at church in our class anyway. He loves trucks and cars, so I decided to do a fire truck. I researched online and looked at lots of pictures. My sister helped me alot by doing the outline and filling in the truck with icing, I was just in charge of making it "look" like a fire truck. The red food coloring didn't make it as red as we wanted, but other than that, I was happy with it. Again, this is not my thing, so I was just glad it was recognizable- they did all know it was a fire truck- SUCCESS!!

Basic 1-2-3-4 Cake
from Paula Deen

Nanny's Vanilla Icing
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
3 c. powdered sugar
1/4 c. milk

Combine all ingredients at medium/high speed until smooth. Spread on cooled cake.
*I did 2 1/2 recipe to ice the 13x9 cake and do the fire truck.*
